Sadia Rayman, 23, from Hounslow, and Farhad Choudhury, 32, from London, were arrested on Saturday night and were released on bail until next Monday. A 32-year-old man was arrested in east London, on suspicion of conspiracy to receive child pornography by a foreign national and another 27-year-old man had been questioned by detectives but released on bail. They are not the only suspects. The arrests follow a string of warnings about the online sexual exploitation of children and vulnerable people. Last week the National Crime Agency, which monitors paedophile networks, told the BBC it had discovered several cases of teenagers in the UK being groomed for paedophilia by social media networks. The NCA said it was aware of at least one account that had amassed 1.4 million followers in less than a year.

Police investigating child sex abuse

By David Dein

The Sun 27 July, 2001

Police probing child sex abuse have uncovered hundreds of images of children being forced to perform sex acts and abused.

The officers were able to identify dozens of victims as they targeted child abusers from a number of countries.

Scotland Yard said these were mainly countries in Europe, such as Belgium, Italy and France, where there was “a high level of international paedo-enthusiast activity” in the 1990s and 2000s.

The images – many of them extremely violent – were found on users’ computers and were being passed around the world by social networking sites.

In another operation involving detectives with a number of major European cities, a 15-year-old boy was arrested in Brussels as police carried out raids in several locations around the Brussels area.

The young man, from a remote town in England, was arrested as officers carried out searches in a garage and the property in a rural area of France, where he was under the care of a foster family.

He had been found in a garage in Aube near Bruges after detectives, working through social media and telephone hacking, was able to establish he had spent a large part of three months searching for a computer.

But the search for more victims has been hampered by a lack of computer resources.
